Dates Announced for 2011 Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear Winter Series

The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear administrators have announced the dates for the fifth annual winter championship. The competition starts with an exclusive double header race weekend on November 12th and 13th at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. From there the series heads to a triple header with CalClub at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on January 20th through the 22nd.

"We are very pleased to be able to provide the opportunity for drivers and teams to prepare for the 2012 season with an organized winter championship," explained series official Ben Hettema. "Since the opening races coincide with the finale weekend of our regular season we already know that we have a good number of drivers signed up for the opening weekend. This is a great place for drivers and teams to get started as they gear up for next season. In the past many teams including World Speed Motorsports, Richie Hearn Racing, Goshen Motorsports, GDT, Phenom Racing Group, John Walko Racing, and Team Apex have joined our usual west coast based racers in preparation for their upcoming seasons." Jorge Goncalvez, who won the FCC Winter Championship in 2009 is currently 6th in points in the Indy Lights championship.

"While it may seem odd to be talking winter in the middle of July, this is the time of year when teams start to talk to new drivers and start working on their winter programs," added Hettema. "Drivers planning to race next season in a Formula Mazda, a Star Pro Formula Mazda, or a FormulaSPEED2.0 will benefit greatly by keeping their race craft sharp over the winter."

  • Race 3 January 20th Auto Club Speedway
